And we’re off… the nominations for the 2020 Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals are announced today, Monday 4th November.

Unique in that they are judged solely by librarians, the Medals are awarded to the outstanding book written in English, and to the outstanding book in terms of illustration (Kate Greenaway Medal). Each nominated book will now be read by every member of the judging panel − 14 children's and youth librarians representing all regions of CILIP's Youth Libraries Group − who volunteer their time as judges. From these nominations the judging panel will decide the long and shortlists and finally, the 2020 Medal winners, based on the official Medals criteria.

The longlists will be announced on 20 February 2020 and the shadowing will open with the announcement of the shortlists in March.
